While the artisanal experience is timeless, Starbucks makes an effort to stay on trend. They offer a wide variety of specialty coffee drinks, including unique handcrafted cocktails and a constantly changing selection of coffee flights for those with an adventurous inclination. Of course the experience would not be complete without a commercial side of things. The Roastery offers merchandise and specialty coffee equipment all the way from bean to cup.

Part of the experience is the presence of the Princi bakery, offering artisanal Italian bread to go with the specialty coffee. Artisanal is the keyword for most of what the Roastery tries to do. But while the message is tried and true, the scale of execution makes it worthy of notice. Delivering high quality, premium products in such a large space is no small feat, but they manage it expertly here.

ROASTERY

Opened in 2014, we recently had the opportunity to visit Starbucks’ source of hometown pride, and it remains as impressive as when it first opened. At the Reserve Roasteries - there is one in Shanghai, too - Starbucks spotlights the finest small-lot and exclusive coffees they have to offer. In the 15.000 square foot Seattle space, they try to turn coffee into an almost theatrical experience, seemingly unbound by conventional coffee shop rules.

Ambitious is perhaps the best way to describe the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle. Followed closely by breathtaking, and perhaps awe-inspiring. The coffee titan’s new flagship store is a celebration of good coffee and good bread, and a tourist attraction in and of itself.
